Heather qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist from Birmingham University in 1994. She gained a broad range of experience treating adults and children before choosing to increase her specialist skills in the area of Paediatrics.

Heather has over 20 years of experience working as a children’s physiotherapist and is a member of the Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists. She worked at Birmingham Children’s Hospital for 8 years, gaining a broad range of paediatric experience before being promoted within the Paediatric Orthopaedic and Musculoskeletal team. Heather’s final role at BCH was to work as an Extended Scope Practitioner within the Orthopaedic Team, assessing and diagnosing toddlers and children referred to Orthopaedic Consultants due to concerns regarding their walking pattern or because of musculoskeletal symptoms.

Heather has taught as an external lecturer on the undergraduate Paediatric modules for the Physiotherapy degree courses at both the University of Birmingham and Coventry. She has also taught in specialist postgraduate courses on the ‘management of Club Feet’, and ‘Obstetric Brachial Plexus injuries’ or ‘Erbs Palsies’.

Heather worked within the community as a Band 7 (Highly Skilled) Children’s physiotherapist for 12 years. During this time she was responsible for the assessment and physiotherapy management of any baby or child referred to the service. She is experienced in managing children with neurological, neuromuscular, musculoskeletal and rheumatological conditions.

Heather appreciates the importance of maintaining up to date clinical skills, and has attended specialist postgraduate courses related to neurodevelopmental assessment and treatment, serial casting and splinting, 24 hour postural care, developmental co-ordination difficulties (dyspraxia) and paediatric rheumatology (included hypermobility).

Heather loves working with children, and aims to support them to achieve their full potential by providing age appropriate physiotherapy advice and activities wherever it is needed, whether that be at home, in the clinic or at their nursery / school.

When not working as a physiotherapist Heather works as a Complementary Therapist, and has qualifications in Baby Massage, Holistic Massage, Reflextherapy and Aromatherapy.
