Return to Function

Learn how to analyse movement patterns and better understand the causes of dysfunction. Begin to develop tools for restoring 'normal' movement and function

This practical and theoretical workshop aims to promote a better understanding of how we move and why we need certain patterns and sequences in order to function. This is the first of a two-part course aimed at developing a basic level of knowledge in the mechanics of movement and how to improve your problem solving skills. Begin to understand how symptoms and injuries can become repetitive, even after treatment. Discuss how pain can go away but the confidence to start moving normally again is slow in returning. This course is mainly aimed at Complementary Therapists and Band 5 Physiotherapists / OTs.

PART 1, of this two-part course, will include observation of a range of pathological and 'normal' presentations. Discussions will include: how to assess, record and begin to understand some of the causes of symptoms, how and why we compensate during functional tasks, be able to justify how and where to apply your treatment techniques to assist in symptom reduction and functional retraining. PART 2 will take the first course to a more advanced level. Participants will be required to contribute by providing video clips or case studies of clients with complex or repetitive pathologies. Alternative approaches to management will be evaluated and discussed as a group.
